How To Eat What You Want And Still Lose Weight

I'm writing this article to inform you of how the body works in regard to food intake. There's way too many fitness freaks out there that want you to eat only "clean foods". A lot of fruits, veggies, plain chicken or turkey breast and maybe some granola for a snack. Who wouldn't get sick of that after a week or two.

Don't get me wrong, there's no question eating like this you'll lose weight. But will you be able to continue that eating habit for weeks, months, or even years down the road? Not only that but, are you really striving to look like a supermodel, or are you just wanting to get the body you had before kids? Most of us just want to look fit and trim, not a ripped god or goddess. It's been proven over and over again, the majority of people don't have the willpower to continue that type of regimen. Think to yourself for a minute, how many times have you went on a diet only to stumble a few weeks later. Then you start the whole process over again.

Okay, let me break down how the body works, without using a bunch of scientific medical jargon. Simply put; It's not so much what you eat, as it is how often you eat. Our bodies have a metabolism, it's job is it burn the food you ingest. If you have a steady flow of food into your system your metabolism will continue to run, burning off fat gram after fat gram. The main reason people gain weight is they don't eat enough. By this I mean, you need to eat at least 5 to 6 meals a day. I'm talking about things like...walking for 30 minutes on your lunch hour or maybe a quick 30 minute walk around your neighborhood with the family. Now that you've got your baby in your arms, everything is blissful... barring post natal depression. One problem. How do you get rid of the weight you gained from your pregnancy. You would have put on about twenty pounds if you were lucky. Many women put on more. The baby weighs eight to nine pounds at most. The placenta and water bag, maybe another one or two pounds. So how do you get rid of the other ten pounds?

The quick fix method of taking weight loss pills are out of the question if you are breastfeeding your baby. Whatever you eat or drink would pass into your milk, including whatever's in that weight loss pill. As for weight loss surgery, do you really want to go through that so soon after giving birth to your baby. Even then, a good doctor wouldn't agree to that surgery unless you've tried diet and exercise first.

You've got to move. Burn up those calories. You know the drill. Burn more calories than you consume and you lose weight. Take in more calories than you burn and you gain weight. You can start with simple exercises first to get your body in shape. I learned this one from the physiotherapist at the hospital the day after I gave birth to my son.

  1. Lie flat on your back and bend your knees. Keep your feet flat on the ground (or bed) and your knees closed.
  2. Slowly move your bent knees to your right until your right outer thigh rests against the ground. Your upper body is still facing the ceiling.
  3. Then roll your knees upwards and down to the left, resting your left outer thigh against the ground.
  4. Repeat.
The slow relaxing movements ease stiff joints and really soothe the post-labor backache.

Start off by watching your diet. Cut out the ice cream and other calorie laden junk food. Switch to plain water instead of sweetened drinks. Water has zero calories while a can of coke can have as much as 155 calories.

That knee rolling exercise wouldn't help you lose weight but walking would. Once you are well enough, take daily walks for thirty minutes each time. As you get fitter, speed up to a jog, and then a run. Running burns calories effectively. Personally, I prefer using a treadmill as I can see how many calories I burn. Besides, with a baby in the house, unless you have someone to watch over the baby while you are jogging, you'll have to keep an eye on the baby while you workout. Don't even think about leaving the baby alone at home while you are out. The worst accidents happen at home.

With a treadmill, you can park the baby in a cot within sight and run away the calories. Another way is to get a jogging stroller. That way, you can jog outdoors and wheel baby along.

Eating the right foods is integral to losing fat, but many overlook the reality that what you drink plays an important role as well. We all have preferences when it comes to drinks. Some prefer alcohol, some detest water, and some believe that the only thing that keeps them going is cup after cup of coffee. However, there are consequences, both good and bad, depending on what you typically drink. Lets start with the most important drink, water. As early as 2003, reports were beginning to surface about how water actually elevates the metabolic rate, therefore aiding in weight loss. This study conducted at Berlins Franz-Volhard Clinical Research Center studied the caloric intake and energy expenditures of seven men and seven women who were not overweight. After the test subjects each drank a little over 2 glasses of water, their metabolic rates increased by as much as 30% for both men and women. The increases occurred within 10 minutes of ingestion and reached a maximum after about 30 to 40 minutes. Researchers found that if a person increases their water intake by 1.5 liters a day without altering anything else, they would still burn an extra 17,400 calories by the end of the year. That is unbelievable. Furthermore, its also well known that water is satiating in that it helps curb hunger pangs, therefore preventing you from overeating. Obviously, water is vital for survival, but now we know that it helps to burn more calories giving us another reason as to why its necessary for fat loss.

Dairy and Weight Loss

Another study came out in 2003 that may be difficult to imagine being true, but research has arrived at the conclusion that low-fat dairy products are a wonderful means in aiding with fat loss. According to the American Society for Nutritional Sciences Journal of Nutrition, women who consumed milk, yogurt, and cheese three to four times a day lost 70% more body fat than women who didnt eat dairy. Supposedly, the reason is that calcium actually helps to boost the metabolic rate. Oddly enough, other foods fortified with calcium wont have the same weight loss effect as the dairy products. Women reap the largest benefit when they consume three servings of dairy a day and 1,200 milligrams of calcium a day. So, make sure you pick up some milk, but keep it low in fat for the best results.

Drinking Alcohol

Lastly, I believe it goes without saying that alcohol needs to be used in moderation and, in my opinion, not at all if fat loss is truly your goal. First off, alcohol actually hinders the mobilization of fat and since the fat cant be utilized to produce energy, glucose (carbohydrates) is then used to provide energy for the body. In turn, the elevated glucose levels lead to a rush of insulin to the blood in order to cart away the glucose to the brain, muscles, and elsewhere. However, insulin doesnt know when to stop with the carting away of the glucose and ends up lowering your blood sugar in the process so that you feel sluggish and weak. Imagine yourself crashing after a sugar high. Consequently, the appetite is triggered and more, unnecessary calories are consumed. To make a long story short, alcohol completely disrupts your metabolism and can even noticeably slow it down up to nearly two days following the alcohol ingestion. Be smart about what you drink. If you choose right, you might just find a body under there thats worth keeping forever.

The Weighty Matter

Just thought I would talk a little about a topic that some of us get so focused on while we are achieving a healthy body weight.

When you step on the scale in the mornings what do you see? How do you interpret that NUMBER?

Some people see the scale as THE ANSWER to how we are progressing, lets face it people we get on it and if we see we have lost some weight we get much more confidence right? But if we gain we get upset, if we stay the same we feel good that we have not gained or lost.

We must focus on a term called lean body mass and body fat percentage. Let me explain what lean body mass is, its simply the sum of the weight of our bones, muscles and organs... basically the sum of everything other than fat in your body. Our body fat percentage is just that its the percentage of body fat we have on our bodies.

So saying the above we need to ask ourselves this, if this is what we need to track to see our progress in a better picture why doesnt measuring body weight do the job? Well to be honest our habits are our best progress reporters, when you step on that scale and have gained a few pounds ask your self these questions.

Have I been eating healthy consistently?

Have I been doing aerobic exercise consistently?

Have I been doing strength training consistently?

If all of these questions have been answered and your answers are YES to all of them, rest assured that youre on the right track to a lean body for life.

What is happening is you are creating more muscle mass thus getting leaner as a result your lean body mass increases and your body fat percentage lowers over time.

The focus should not be on body weight. Instead focus on creating good healthy habits, check your lean body mass, body fat percentage and the consistency of your exercise habits.

A measurement routine would be as follows: body weight measurement, body fat % reading, waist measurement and lean body mass calculation, these should be done every 2 weeks or better yet on a monthly basis.

Below is a lean body mass formula to calculate your lean body mass

- Let's say you're a 130 pound woman with 23% body fat

- Initial body fat: 130 pounds x 0.23 fat = 30 pounds of body fat

- Lean body mass: 130 pounds total 30 pounds of fat = 100 pounds of lean body mass

Doing this will assure you a healthier, leaner body and ultimately help you achieve a healthier body weight over time.

Below are some guidelines on body fat percentages we should aim for.

Body fat percentage standards: For women, 15 to 20 percent is considered lean, 20 to 25 percent is normal, 26 to 32 percent is overfat and 33 percent or higher is obese. For men, 8 to 12 percent is considered lean, 13 to 19 percent is normal, 20 to 24 percent is over fat and 25 percent or higher is obese.

There is a message to all of you thin people, dieting without strength training can leave you with a high body fat percentage. It's possible to appear thin, but have a high percentage of body fat, in this case your are considered to be a thin fat person and I think no one wants that right?

Diet and Exercise Program For Permanent Weight Loss Part 2

In Part 1 of this series, I explained how the only way to permanently lose weight is to change your lifestyle. "Dieting" will almost always result in an initial loss of weight (both fat and lean muscle) however, once you go off your diet you will rapidly gain back the weight you lost. In addition, since your body is designed to protect itself from a lack of calories, it will also put on additional stores of body fat. The old adage "one step forward, two steps back" applies to this type of "yo-yo" dieting.



I also discussed your Basic Metabolic Rate (BMR) and how that plays into your weight loss plan. If you go on any type of extreme diet, your body will simply lower its BMR even further in order to survive. The goal is to increase your BMR not decrease it.



So, you're probably asking, "How can I possibly eat 5-6 meals a day and still lose weight?" By eating more frequent, yet smaller meals, you are allowing your body to maintain if not increase its BMR. Also, you will avoid insulin spikes that happen when you eat only once or twice a day.



Below is a sample diet for one day. You can alter this, play around with it but with a little planning, you can stick to this while you aim for your desired weight:



Sample Diet For One Day

Assuming a weight of 220lb
Breakfast:
4 eggs scrambled (Only use 1 yolk) using non stick spray- 145 Calories
1 piece of whole grain toast with butter substitute-Approx 100 calories
8 oz NON fat milk-90 calories
1 piece of fruit: (Banana-Approx 110 calories)
(Apple-Approx 80 calories)
Total calories: Approximately 300-400

Mid Morning Snack
Nutrition bar (Balance bar-Approx 200 calories)

Lunch:
Chicken breast, no skin, baked or broiled.
Salad (lettuce, cucumber, any salad type veggie..NO cheese)
with olive oil and vinegar or NONFAT dressing: About 150-200 calories
Total calories: 350-400 calories

Mid Afternoon Snack
Balance bar or
1-2 oz of lightly salted cashews-Approx 250-300 calories or
One serving of low carb protein drink

Dinner:
4-8 oz Ground turkey (lean) burgers, no cheese-Approx 160-320 calories
Salad as per lunch-150-200 calories
Serving of veggies such as cauliflower, broccoli, grean beans etc-50 calories
Approx 350-550 calories

Snack before bed:
Jello
Diet Popsicles

No carbs 2-3 hours before bed other than veggies with dinner!!!

With a little imagination you will find that you'll quickly come up with other items that you can add to this diet and make it your own.

A Daily Checklist for Fast, Healthy Weight Loss

All weight loss success comes down to doing the same things over and over again, on a consistent basis. Simply put, when you replace bad habits with good ones, you'll lose weight. The more bad habits you replace with good ones, the sooner you'll see results.

In order to truly achieve fast, healthy weight loss you'll need to replace nearly all of your bad habits with good ones. Below you'll find a "checklist" of the 7 things you'll need to do every single day to lose weight and look better fast. You might want to print it out and keep it with you as a simple reminder of what it really takes to drop your unwanted body fat quickly and safely.

In a very short amount of time you'll see that the following 7 habits can make a huge difference in the way you look and feel!

1. Review your goals.

Set goals and review them daily. This helps you stay motivated and on the fast-track to weight loss success.

2. Eat mostly natural foods.

Cut out processed foods from your diet and replace them with fresh, natural whole foods. Here's a good rule-of-thumb: if it can't be found somewhere in nature, don't eat it!

3. Eat 5 or 6 six small, healthy meals per day.

This serves two purposes: it keeps you from getting hungry and overeating at any one meal... and it keeps your metabolism elevated, helping you to burn more fat throughout the day.

4. Limit sugar intake.

Avoid all foods with high sugar content. This includes "natural" foods like pure fruit juice and honey. If you need to sweeten something, use the natural, low-calorie sweeteners stevia and xylitol. Both can be found in health-food stores.

5. Drink water throughout the day.

Drinking lots of water is a "must" for fast, healthy weight loss. It'll keep your energy levels up, help you avoid hunger cravings, and greatly assist the fat-burning process. If you don't like drinking plain water, try sugar-free teas and flavored sparkling water drinks.

6. Do some form of vigorous exercise.

Exercise at a moderate intensity level for 30 minutes to an hour most days of the week. Do something you enjoy so it won't seem like a chore. Both aerobic exercise and strength training are vital to any good fitness program so be sure to do both.

7. Have fun.

Find ways to increase the enjoyment level of everything you do. Try healthy new foods and recipes, partner-up with a friend, join some form of sports or fitness group, take part in online weight loss communities, etc. This is the key component to long-term weight loss success because if you're not having fun, you won't stick with it!

What are Affirmations?

1. The act or an instance of affirming; state of being affirmed.
2. the assertion that something exists or is true.
3. something that is affirmed; a statement or proposition that is declared to be true.
4. confirmation or ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment, decision, etc.

Thoughts repeated regularly and systematically sink into the subconscious mind and become habitual. Affirmations as these are called have been used by many of the greatest people of our society. Finding the right affirmations to use must come from within. It is important that your affirmations are written in your own words since the subconscious will react better to your own thoughts than to the thoughts of someone else. Start by taking notice of what you want to change in yourself. Write down on paper your thoughts, desires and feelings that you wish to improve upon.
Then you need to use words and phrases for your affirmations in a positive manner rather than a negative manner. As an example, if you wanted to quit smoking, you wouldn't want to program your Awake2000 Mindmaster unit with affirmations such as "Cigarette smoking makes me sick" because you will in turn cause yourself to get sick. It is better to program affirmations like "I am a non-smoker" or "I am healthy and dislike the smell and taste of cigarette smoke" thereby telling the subconscious to see a different you.
It is important to choose your words wisely. You do not want to program your Mindmaster with words like "I want" because no change will take place since your subconscious is already there. In other words, affirmations worded with "I want" simply are a statement of what "you want", this only affirms that you will always want whichever it is your affirmations are presenting. You must see yourself as a different you by visualizing what you want to accomplish. Use words like "I am" or "I have", this allows your subconscious to visualize and believe you are already what you wish to become instead of what you want to become.
Positive affirmations can enhance any area of your life, from improving exercise or eating habits to overcoming fears and bad habits. There are many resources available to help those who find creating affirmations to be difficult. Affirmations can be found on the Internet or in books. Remember to use any outside suggestions as only an example. Thoughts and phrases should come from words within your terms of speaking. If you wish to improve your health, you can find hundreds of examples on the internet that reflect healthy aspects. Though if for instance you were to find some health affirmations worded in a manner that you would not typically speak, you need to re-write that affirmation into your own words. Your subconscious will work faster with affirmations spoken in your terms of speaking faster than that of someone else's. An example of this could be the legal terminology that most attorneys use, most of us can read it and somewhat understand it, but the lawyers are the ones that can pick it apart and know exactly what it is exclaiming to in ways we probably never imagined. If your mind does not fully comprehend the meaning of the affirmations you are feeding it, your process will not take effect as fast.
With the Mindmaster, you no longer have to use affirmations on a conscious level to effect the change that is necessary on the subconscious level. Since your subconscious never sleeps, it is even more receptive to receiving and retaining messages because any doubt and disbelief, which are conscious barriers, are dissolved while you are sleeping, allowing your subconscious image to be changed more effectively.

I am a great salesperson who is confident in my abilities to succeed.

I am productive and a success in all that I do.

I am efficient and stress-free.

I am a non-smoker and in control of my health and wellness.

I eat healthy and can control my weight by avoiding unhealthy choices.

I have abundant energy to do all the daily activities in my life.

My body is healthy and free of pain.

I love learning and excel in school.

I am capable of waking up at night to go to the bathroom so I don't wet the bed.

The dark does not scare me.

My strength is in forgiveness to those who have hurt me.

I am worthy of love. The more I love, the more love is returned to me.

I am a creative person with lots of good ideas.

I have a terrific golf swing.

I love my body and it loves me.

I have a kind personality and strong self-esteem.
